Frequently Asked Questions

Is SMP permanent?

Yes, as a type of cosmetic tattoo, Scalp Micropigmentation is a permanent procedure.

Does it fade?

The impressions will fade very slowly over time and a small touch up may be needed every 4-5 years.

How many sessions will it take?

Typically it takes 2-3 sessions to achieve the final look.

How long is each session?

Each session lasts between 2-4 hours depending on your hair loss needs.

When can I book my next session?

Waiting at least 10 days is recommended before booking your next session.

Will it turn blue like a tattoo?

No, we use a special carbon based pigment that is made to naturally mimic the color of your current hair follicles – and will not turn blue like traditional tattoo ink.

What if I have red or grey hair?

We can still match your current hair by adjusting the dilution of our industry-leading SMP pigment.

What if I start getting more grey hair?

The impressions from your original procedure will naturally fade at the same time you continue to go grey.  So when the time comes for a touch up session in 4-5 years, we will just use a lighter pigment to match that same grey shade.

Can it cover scars?

Absolutely, SMP is a great choice for covering FUE and FUT scars, but at the same time we can keep the current scars you may have on your head, if you’d like, for an even edgier look.

How long will the redness last after my treatment?

Redness will slowly disappear after 24-48 hours.  Be sure to follow the after care instructions you receive after the procedure, to be sure your scalp heals correctly.

How much does it cost?

Price can vary depending on your amount of hair loss.  An SMP specialist will give you an free quote once we receive your information.

Can I wear a hat after the procedure?

Yes, wearing a hat is no problem at all.

Does sunlight fade the impressions?

Yes, unprotected exposure to the sun can cause fading issues, so SPF sunblock is highly recommended to extend the life of the treatment.
